The month-long food festival, Good Food Month, happening for the first time in Brisbane is well underway now. It showcases the best restaurants, bars, cafes and producers have to offer.
Last week I attended the official launch party at Kwan Brothers and hearing about some of the events that are going to happen this month, I got even more excited.
Here are my favourites (full program can be found on the good food website):
Night Noodle Markets (Cultural Forecourt, South Bank | from Thursday, July 17 to Sunday, July 27)
Yakitori, gyoza, pho, ramen, bars and music – do I have to say more? I’ll be there with my bells on! With a list of over 20 stallholders and only 11 nights, it’s not going to be an easy task to try everything, but I’ll do my best. And I bet I’ll wish it was a permanent thing.
Pho Sake (Sake, Thursday, July 10, $79, includes a cocktail on arrival) – part of the Hats of dinners
For one night only Sake goes Vietnamese. Six-course Vietnamese feast by Sake’s head chef Shinichi Maeda.
Food from my childhood (Chow House, July 1-31, 5-9pm, $45) – part of the World Dinners
The description got me hungry and salivating, I think it’s a sign I should go and try it: “Thai-born, French-trained chef Timmy Kemp revisits her childhood on a duck farm through this three-course feast. Journey with her through the street-food favourite madtarbark neua (fried spiced beef pastries), Massaman duck curry and baked coconut pudding with sticky rice and coconut.”
Alchemy Elements: Earth, Wind, Fire & Water (Alchemy Restaurant, Thursday, July 10, $88, includes matched wines)
Dinner inspired by the four elements of creation – including hay-baked quail with forest mushroom soil and confit garlic, and ocean-water-poached ocean trout with cucumber caviar and seaweed. Sounds very interesting and intriguing.
Bar Hop (Jul 1-31)
I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t include some good cocktail options in my list of Good Food Month Favourites. Some of Brisbane’s bars offer a gin-based cocktail & matched bar snack for $20. I got my eye on Riverbar & Kitchen with their crab slider, Lychee Lounge with wagyu burger and Watt Restaurant and Bar with Thai fishcakes.
Butcher, Baker & Winemaker (Wandering Cooks, Tuesday July 15, 6.30pm – 10.30pm, $90 includes matched wines and a glass of sparkling on arrival)
3 magic words for me. Give me meat, bread and wine and I’ll love you forever. Feast featuring finest charcuterie, artisan bread and cheese, paired with award-winning rare Yalumba wines.
