Ad Lib Hotel – Bangkok, Thailand

Being the coffee addict that I most certainly am, I must admit the Ad Lib Hotel in Bangkok pretty much got me at “unlimited coffee”. I really didn’t need much convincing. Before finalising the booking I checked only the most important basics (location, quality & amenities) and felt like I’ll be in for a treat!

The Extra Plush room, Ad Lib Bangkok

With the impressive list of perks included in the extra plush room rate, like unlimited barista-made coffee and tea delivered to the room, free minibar, cocktail vouchers or higher floor, choosing this type of room was a no-brainer for me.

My room was on the 4th floor – the highest in the hotel – and featured a comfortable king-size bed, sitting/working area and a lovely bathroom with rain shower, Malin + Goetz toiletries (another bonus of the extra plush option) and a small open wardrobe with ample storage.

Grey walls with lots of wood and greenery outside the window made for a very calming environment. The room isn’t big but it’s well designed and everything seems to be in the right place. Everything but a lamp over the table, which I hit countless times.

The food

Most definitely go for the rate that includes breakfast. It’s worth it. Eggs Benny on sourdough bread (that was better than almost every bread I had in Australia) and the Ad Lib Pancake were both excellent.

I made a huge mistake though – I had breakfast in bed one day. The combination of the comfy bed, great coffee and perfect breakfast made me lazy and I really had to give myself a pep talk to get out and explore Bangkok.

The Ad Lib hotel

Ad Lib Bangkok is like an oasis hidden (quite literally) in the side streets, away from all the hustle and bustle of Bangkok. At the same time, it’s only a few minutes walk (or a convenient tuk-tuk shuttle) away from the BTS station and there are many street food options around.

It’s a boutique hotel, that offers all you may need for a comfortable stay and a little extra. I felt very welcome from the moment the staff opened the door of my taxi. They all spoke very good English and helped me with everything I asked for.

There’s a lovely bar/chillout/work out area with a saltwater lap pool, small gym and lounges. It was a bit crowded at times and unfortunately, they allow guests to smoke there.

Ad Lib Bangkok – the verdict

A lovely, small hotel in the middle of a loud city, that feels like a place where you can relax. If you’re a coffee-lover, the Extra Plush room option is really worth the money.
